During your younger years, your mom or grandmother always told you to drink a glass of milk every night before going to bed. It’s going to make you taller and stronger, they said, so as a child who believes in absolutely anything your elders said, you respectfully obeyed and drank your milk. Who doesn’t want to get tall and strong bones, right?

MilkApparently, milk is more than just giving calcium to your bones and flavor to your breakfast cereal. Yes, it will always be among the healthiest foods available, but did you know that aside from your teeth and bones, it can also do wonders for your skin, too?

The truth is, milk plays an important role in making your skin smooth and supple. It also keeps any skin problems at bay. It can even solve your dry, damaged or frizzy hair issues, too. To be specific, here are some of the surprising beauty benefits you can get from milk.

1. Milk Improves Your Complexion.

complexionCleopatra was once the most beautiful woman alive. Did you know what her beauty secret was for keeping her skin soft, smooth and supple? You guessed it right. It was milk.

Milk is packed with essential nutrients to make your skin look its best. It has lactic acid, which acts as an exfoliant, enzymes to help smooth your skin and amino acids to make sure your skin is moisturized.

It also has antioxidants to protect your skin from damage caused by harmful toxins. And the best part about using milk? It is very easy and convenient to use.

If you’re not a fan of drinking milk everyday, just get some raw milk. Apply it on your face and leave it on for 10 minutes before you wash it off with cold water. You can also make a face pack out of milk, and combine it honey and lemon juice. Mix the ingredients, apply it on your face and leave it on for 10 minutes. You will notice how your skin will become fairer and softer afterwards.

2. Milk Removes Your Dead Skin Cells.

Sadly, your regular soap and water are not enough to get rid of it. And once these bacteria and dead skin cells decide to stay in your face, you surely won’t like the results.

What if there’s an easier, gentler and more convenient way to get rid of dead skin cells – would you grab it? Then in that case, try milk. Thanks to its lactic acid component, getting rid of dead skin cells is so much easier.

All you have to do is add salt to a cup of boiling water and add four cups of milk to it. Let it soak for 20 minutes before using the scrub to clear off your skin. You’ll notice how this milk scrub can get rid of the dead skin cells and make your skin glow.

Look closely in front of the mirror and examine your pores. Do you have large, open pores that can hold thousands of bacteria? Don’t worry.

There are millions of people around the world who share the same sentiment, so at least, you are not alone when battling pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and whatever else might just pop out of your face.

The good news is dairy products, particularly sour milk or sour cream, can be an excellent way to shrink your pores. All you have to do is to apply sour cream evenly to your face and neck, and then let it dry for 15 minutes before you rinse with cold water. You’ll notice how your pores will get smaller if you do this routine regularly.

Washing your face twice a day is very important. Apparently, water is not enough. Neither is using soap with chemicals and ingredients you’ve never even heard of and might potentially damage your skin.

The good news is, there are milder, safer and more effective ways to cleanse your face. All you need is raw milk and a cotton ball, and that’s it. Wipe your face with it and let its magic work on your skin before you wash it off with fresh water.

The truth is raw milk is an excellent cleanser. It’s capable of cleaning your skin from the inside out. However, if you are one of those natural holistic believers who think that a combination of one or more natural ingredients is the best way to go, blend slices of papaya with milk and apply the mixture on your face and neck. Aside from making your skin clean, it can even give you a fairer look and a fresher skin.

Milk has a lot of proteins, vitamins and minerals that can make your skin and fair and radiant. Moreover, if you have been drinking milk regularly, not because your mom told you to do so, then expect naturally radiant skin from the inside.

Combine it with honey, which is known for its many health and skin care benefits, and you’ll know you’re in good hands.

Just mix powdered milk, honey and warm water until it forms into a paste. Apply it on your face and neck. Leave it on until the mixture becomes stiff. Wash it off with warm water.

If you want to make your skin smooth and supple, you need to make sure that it is properly moisturized. There are many moisturizers sold in the market, but seriously, are you willing to take a risk?

If you are looking for the best moisturizer around, all you have to do is to open your fridge and get some milk.

Milk is capable of keeping your skin moisturized all throughout the day. Just take raw, un-boiled milk and dip a washcloth or cotton ball in it. Apply and let dry for 15 minutes. Gently scrub your face using the washcloth for three to five minutes. By doing this, you will be able to restore your skin’s natural moisture, improve its elasticity and make your skin smooth, supple, fresh and glowing. Who says you can only use commercially sold moisturizers?

There are many reasons why your hair is dry and damaged. Instead of going to the salon for a hair treatment using harsh chemicals. Milk is an effective treatment for dry, rough and damaged hair.

After shampooing your hair, scrub milk on your scalp. Wash it off after a few minutes to make your hair soft and silky. A piece of advice: Don’t leave the milk on your scalp for too long. Milk tends to be sticky and it can cause damage to your hair when you wash it off.

You can also do your own hair spa treatment at home to treat your damaged hair. Just mix a quarter cup of powdered milk and water until it forms into a paste. Gently massage it into your hair and scalp. Cover your hair with a hot, damp towel for 30 minutes. Rinse it off thoroughly after.

8. Milk Is A Better Alternative To Shampoo Conditioner.

Your bath may not be complete without conditioning your hair. Aside from making sure your hair is clean, you also want it to be smooth and shiny. Thankfully, milk can be a great conditioner for your hair.

To do this, fill a spray bottle with cold milk and spray it on your hair as you comb it gently. Make sure to wash the milk off your hair after 15 minutes. You’ll see the difference afterwards, because milk can make your hair shiny.

Who says milk is only for your bones? Yes, it can bring many health benefits to your body, but it is worth noting what milk can do for your hair and skin, too.

However, you have to be careful what type of milk you use. If you can, go for organic milk from animals with a plant-based diet. A lot of cows – and other animals – are fed and treated with hormones and chemicals, which can affect the effectiveness of milk.

What if you are allergic to animal milk? Your best option would be plant-based milk, such as soymilk or almond milk. Both contain lots of vitamins, such as vitamins A and D, which can be beneficial on your skin, too.

So, what are you waiting for? Try out these milk treatments and say hello to healthier, fresher and more radiant looking hair and skin.
